PAT Testing in Lewisham
Portable appliance testing for landlords and workplaces in Lewisham. On-site checks, clear results and same-day certification.

In a rental property or busy workplace, it can be hard to know when every electrical appliance was last checked. Equipment gets moved, replaced or added over time.
Volt Test provides PAT testing in Lewisham for landlords and businesses. Our qualified engineers visit your premises, inspect the appliances and give you a written record of the tests.
We label each tested item and provide same-day certification. You can keep the report with your property or workplace safety records.

PAT Testing for Landlords in Lewisham
A change of tenant is a useful time to check the appliances you supply.
You may have cleaning and repairs to arrange before the next tenant moves in. It is worth checking the fridge, washing machine, kettle or portable heater too. A damaged cable behind a unit can be easy to miss during a general property check.
Common equipment to include when you request a quote:
- Fridges and washing machines
- Kettles and small kitchen appliances
- Portable heaters
- Extension leads
- Table lamps
- Chargers supplied with the property
- Other plug-in equipment included in the tenancy
For several properties, tell us how many addresses need testing and when access is available. We can then discuss the visits without assuming every home has the same equipment.
PAT Testing for Offices, Shops and Schools
Even a small workplace can have more plug-in equipment than staff realise.
Look beyond the main computers and printers. Chargers under desks, spare extension leads and kitchen appliances all need to be considered when arranging checks.
A lead pulled tight during an office move or a loose plug may leave equipment unsafe even if it still switches on.
We test offices, shops, schools and other commercial premises on site. Tell us when equipment can be unplugged, so we can plan the visit around your working hours.
PAT Testing Process
Visual Inspection
First we inspect the appliance, plug and cable for wear, damage or signs of overheating.
Electrical Testing
Next we use calibrated equipment to run the tests that apply to that appliance. A double-insulated item does not need an earth continuity test.
Labelling & Reporting
We label the item and note its result in your report. You’ll receive same-day certification once testing is complete.

What Your PAT Testing Results Tell You
The report identifies each item we tested and records whether it passed or failed. Keep it with your records so you can refer to it before the next inspection.
When a test shows an item is unsafe, stop using it until a competent person has checked and repaired it or you have replaced it.
A pass result only reflects the condition of equipment at the time of testing. Staff and tenants should report new signs of damage when they appear.
Clear results make it easier to act on a fault without guessing which appliance needs checking.
PAT Testing for Properties and Workplaces
The visit can be arranged for one rented home or a larger workplace. What matters is knowing which items are there and when our engineer can access them.

For Landlords
Check the appliances you supply before a new tenancy where practical. Our report gives you the results of the portable appliance checks; it is not an EICR.

For Businesses
Include chargers, detachable leads and items stored away from the main work area. These can be missed when staff count only the equipment on their desks.
We record separate results for tested appliances, so you can find the failed item without sorting through a general summary.

Is PAT Testing the Same as an EICR?
No. An EICR covers the fixed electrical installation in a property, such as wiring and related parts of the system.
PAT testing deals with portable electrical appliances instead. A current EICR does not mean every kettle, printer or extension lead is safe.
Private landlords in England must have the fixed installation inspected and tested at least every five years, or sooner if the previous report requires it. PAT testing does not replace that duty.
How Often Should Electrical Equipment Be Tested?
There is no fixed annual PAT testing rule for every appliance.
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require relevant workplace equipment to be kept safe. Inspection intervals should reflect how equipment is used and the chance of damage.
An extension lead moved around a workshop may face more wear than a printer left in one place. Previous results can help you decide when to inspect again.
Ask us if you’re unsure what needs testing or when another visit may be useful. We can discuss the types of equipment you have.
